Thyra Foronda

lost in belladonna

belladonna disguised as blueberries
her periphery—void iris
the lying naïvete of those that welcome her
as she draws, steals their conscious

this is the hour we welcome fantasies
familiar but nonexistent beings framed from
blurry silhouettes and uncanny images
making nonsensical performances

standing ovation for the display you call a nightmare
this dream bleeds into the next
you could say these dreams are
snaps stuck by a clothespin hung on a frail string

at this hour arrives a family tailored of each
new character birthed from the conscience
of my childhood being’s imagination
a species that strays far from ordinary

every dream is a reflection of one’s collective past
half of me sits in complete stillness
the other reliving, entrapped by fantastical encounters
oneself lost in the iris of this hour

Thyra Foronda is a high school writer from southeast Michigan. While known in the nonprofit community for founding Origami For Good and YPLA, she finds passion in playing the piano, learning multiple languages, and graphic design. She’s in love with strawberry or banana matcha lattes with oat milk—sometimes with vanilla flavoring—and the color lavender. She utilizes poetry to experiment with creating imagery using vocabulary (+ sometimes visual art through digital mediums).
